Day 2: La Normandie - Caen et Deauville

Although it took a little coaxing to get some of the students out of bed, AR Modern Europe 2017 was able to leave Paris and make it to the Caen Memorial by lunch time. Here we had the opportunity to comtemplate photos, documents, video presentation and even Virtual Reality presentations detailing the story of the struggle to liberate Europe from Nazi domination. This allowed us to better appreciate the sacrifice of those memorialized at the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach.

On the way to our lodging in Deauville, we also passed over the Pegagus Bridge, also important to this chapter of history.

Our arrival at La Closerie Hotel/Spa in Deauville marked a big change in focus for us... Deauville is a lovely seaside resort town and we were ready for to relax and enjoy a nice dinner together.

Tomorrow we'll probably sleep in a little bit before we head back to Paris.
